Al Othman promises to clinch first place in Batelco 2000cc Third Round

As the third round of the Batelco 2000CC Challenge approaches on January 9, drivers are gearing up for more action and fiercer competition as new drivers sign up and get ahead.

Round two witnessed action between the newcomers and those not so new to the series, a battle which was clearly illustrated by first-timer Hisham Al Othman in his Honda CRX. Having only finished building the car a day before his participation, Al Othman piled the pressure on Mustafa Al Khan and finished in second place in the first race during the second round just a mere 21 seconds behind.

Hisham Al Othman has long been participating in motorsport in the Kingdom having been involved in drag racing since the 90s. His participation in 2005, however, won him first place in the Street FWD category. Al Othman was also seen joining in the 24-hour karting race in that same year and picked up top positions several times in Autocross races.

With such a solid background in racing, Al Othman could be one of the newcomers to hit the top ranks and clinch titles this season having witnessed a superb performance in Round two.

During this round he highlighted that he had hoped to see Shaikh Salman bin Isa bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, last season’s champion, defend his title. He also added that he looked forward to competing against the Kingdom’s top drivers - including Shaikh Jaber Al Khalifa who has confirmed his participation in the season - in order to build on his experience.

He also said: “I wanted to join the Batelco 2000CC Challenge as my first passion lies in motorsport and wanted to develop my knowledge of circuit racing. I believed that this series was the most suitable one as you could build your own car to your available budget. The challenge itself has a minimal cost for registering and joining, and those drivers who do excel will be rewarded with prize money which is an added motivational factor.”

He continued to say that he was now working on modifying his car with his team in order to optimize his performance as he focuses on clinching first place in the upcoming round.

Al Othman thanked Bahrain International Circuit, Bahrain Motor Federation and the Circuit Racing Club for creating and supporting this successful local series and extended his thanks to his team including Khalid Al Kobaisi and Salah Faris for their ongoing work.
