The 2010 Gulf Air Desert 400 kicked off to a fantastic second day of racing as the V8 Supercars Australia Championship, GP2 Asia Series and Batelco 2000cc Challenge competed at ‘The Home of Motorsport in the Middle East.’
                      
The first day of racing held yesterday, Thursday 25th February, witnessed Shaikh Hamad Al Khalifa claim pole position following the qualifying round, where he set the fastest lap-time of the day at 1 minute and 39.258 seconds. Raed Himmo narrowly missed out on the pole position, finishing with a time of 1 minute and 39.327 seconds, while Shaikh Salman Al Khalifa crossed the finish line in 1 minute 40.531 seconds, claiming third in his Honda CRX. 
 
The first race of the 5th round of the Batelco 2000cc Challenge’s 2009-10 season was packed full of action as the 12 drivers pulled up to the starting line today at Bahrain International Circuit. After 9 laps, Raed Himmo proved to be the most skilled and talented driver of the day as he claimed the top podium position with a time of 15 minutes and 18.682 seconds. His stellar performance also saw him finish with the fastest lap time of the race at 1 minute and 40.149 seconds, set on the 6th lap. Essa Al Kooheji trailed Himmo by a margin of almost 2 seconds, crossing the finish line at 15 minutes and 20.152 seconds. He was followed by Shaikh Jaber Al Khalifa’s Honda Integra in third place with a time of 15 minutes and 21.335 seconds.
 
There were several notable performances during the first race of round 5, with Mustafa Al Khan putting in a determined effort, managing to come from the back of the grid after starting in the pit lane and passing several drivers to finish in sixth place.
 
Tomorrow, Saturday 27th February, will see the second and final race of the 5th round of the Batelco 2000cc Challenge take place at 1130am. As the end of the season nears, drivers will be looking to make the most of this round and claim valuable points. With Mustafa Al Khan, Shaikh Jaber Al Khalifa and Shaikh Salman Al Khalifa all in contention for the title, tomorrow’s race will prove to be a significant step in deciding who will claim this year’s crown.
