Batelco 2000CC Challenge gets ready to support Grand Racing Weekend

It’s official – the Batelco 2000CC Challenge drivers are ready to support the Grand Racing Weekend this Friday and Saturday, organisers announced today.
As the biggest international sporting event this month kicks off, the 2-litre series will see tough competition from new joiners and veterans as they go head-to-head in the fourth round of the season.
Having seen a hugely successful first season, the second season has witnessed much interest from the very start. With some 14 drivers hitting the track in the opening round, which supported the Gulf Air Desert 400 V8 Supercars Race last November, more have joined as the season has progressed.
The first round involved intense action as returning driver Mustafa Al Khan, and now current lead, faced fierce competition from top rival and new joiner Hisham Al Othman in his Honda CRX, Mohammed Saleh, Rashid Al Jowder, Abdul Rahman Ghuloom. The upcoming round will see plenty of action as Bahraini autocross champion Shaikh Jaber bin Ali Al Khalifa will be seen participating in his Honda Integra – a limited edition car brought in all the way from Japan.
Martin Whitaker, Chief Executive Officer of Bahrain International Circuit, highlighted that the Batelco 2000CC Challenge is well into its second season now and is quickly turning into one of the most successful local racing series hosted at the circuit. He added that it was also one of the most sought after series that local drivers wished to participate in as a starting point in motorsport. He also added that a crucial factor which encouraged this, and drivers to join, was the low cost to get involved in the series and the cost involved in modifying their cars.
Whitaker also added that it was tremendous to see the Batelco 2000CC Challenge continue to go from strength-to-strength as a supporting event to the Grand Racing Weekend, one of the most successful regional racing weekends in the Middle East, and to see Bahraini talents participating in front the crowds that will be at the Home of Motorsport in the Middle East this weekend.
The Batelco 2000CC Challenge is a national series organised by the Circuit Racing Club, supported by the Bahrain Motor Federation, promoted by the Bahrain International Circuit and sponsored by Bahrain’s leading telecommunications company, Batelco.
